Trees and shrubs planted near high-voltage overhead and underground power lines can eventually cause outages, slow maintenance and repairs, endanger lives and property and even waste energy. To prevent Polk-Burnett from having to remove a tree or shrub, please see the planting guidelines below when planting. The planting guide pertains to the main overhead and underground high-voltage lines. They do not apply to low-voltage service wires – either overhead or underground – that run from the transformer to your home, cabin or business. However, it's a good idea to allow clearance near overhead service wires when planting as well, and you should leave at least six feet of clearance on each side of any underground lines.
Before you dig, you must contact Digger's Hotline at 800-242-8511, at least three working days before digging so that the public underground utilities can be marked.
